The Bar Mitzvah Service
A Bar Mitzvah is when a Jewish boy becomes an adult in the eyes of the Jewish community. On this occasion, the 13-year-old boy reads from the Torah in front of the Congregation.
Bar Mitzvahs have been a ritual for Jewish boys since the 16th century and in each and every one, the Bar Mitzvah boy helped lead the entire Shabbat service and read from the Torah.
Jonathan will chant in Hebrew from the Torah without the help of vowels (no simple task).
